<description>Dear Melissa, I saw your link and information on the International Encaustic Conference website. I was especially happy to see of your interest in bees as a beekeeper. That is so cool. I have been working and teaching as an encaustic artist for about 5 years in San Diego. I started using beekeeper wax several years ago and love the process of gathering the wax, heating it, sifting the debris from the wax, straining and creating blocks of fragrant wax to use in my artwork.
I have a newfound respect for bees and participated in a study this past summer to determine how many bees gathered on sunflowers that I planted and grew in my garden. I had an experience several years ago where I gathered honey comb and sculptured wax from a large tree that burned. I created a series paying tribute to the bees that gave me the materials to make my artwork. I hope to attend the conference this year and perhaps we can meet at that time. If you are participating as one of the lecturers I would love to attend and share some of my story if that would be of interest to you. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. All the very best,
Josie Rodriguez
